Respond to God’s Call. Live as a Franciscan Sister. Satisfy your heart’s desire.
We live the Gospel of Jesus. In the example of Saints Francis and Clare, we offer
peace and joy to our world and walk side by side with persons who are poor and less fortunate.
We are committed to promoting human rights and dignity for all, building community
wherever we live, and healing the sources of Mother Earth’s wounds.

Ministering wherever there is greatest need, our desire is to make the world a more peaceful and loving home for all. We recognize the inherent dignity and equality of every person, and seek to be in direct relationship with persons who are poor and marginalized in the world. Our ministries include education, hospitality, administration, promoting justice and peace, church leadership, spiritual direction, retreat facilitation, counseling, pastoral care, social and health care and international missions.

For the past 10 years, Sister Juanita Mauer has been a hospice nurse, caring for the dying and their families in northern New Mexico. Some are very poor; others are wealthy. They are Hispanic, Native American and Caucasian. They are young and old, children and babies — all on a journey to their final home with God. Sister Juanita is also active in her parish. As a member of St. John the Baptist parish, she participates as a lector, Eucharistic minister, member of the RCIA team and member of the Liturgy Committee.

Sister Juanita lives out this charism in her ministry with the St. John the Baptist Soup Kitchen. She is a companion to those in need — young and old, multi-cultural, college graduates, veterans, some are mentally ill, alcoholics or drug addicts. All are hungry, and all are welcome at the table.

As a community, we are grateful for the opportunity to minister to the people of New Mexico. Since 1979, thirteen Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota have ministered in Albuquerque, Chimayo, Espanola and Santa Fe.
